Music and Theatre Arts

'Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way people feel, think and act. It develops pupils' ability to listen and appreciate a wide variety of music. It encourages active involvement in music making, both individual and communal, developing a sense of group identity and togetherness.'
(The British National Curriculum, 1999)

Music

Music is a very important element of our school's character that is recognized throughout the community. Though our music curriculum, students use a range of musical instruments to develop their musical understanding.

Our well-equipped music room allows the students the opportunity to develop their musical talents even further and older students enjoy the privilege of using the room to practice during their free time.

Steel Drums, Guitar and Band Clubs

Children have the opportunity to learn steel drums, guitar and keyboard in our after school clubs.

Being a part of the steel band is not only a cultural musical experience, but also serves, as do all aspects of Music and Drama, as a self-esteem building activity, which affects all other areas of learning.

Children are also given the opportunity to partipate in our guitar club.

We have also had a regular band club, which comprised of guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums.

Theatre Arts

Theatre Arts encourages children to use their creativity and imagination, allowing them to express ideas and feelings through drama, music and dance.

All our children are given the opportunity to play an integral part of our end of term shows, plays and concerts. Prior to the stage performance, children are involved in designing and building sets, making props and costumes, learning lines, songs, dance routines and actions, and working as a team.

Performing to an audience encourages them to learn to speak clearly, thinking about the interest of the listener. It builds self-confidence, a sense of community and a wonderful feeling of achievement.
