'Information and communication technology (ICT)
prepares children to participate in a rapidly changing world in which
work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to
varied and developing technology.'
(The British National Curriculum, 1999)
ICT plays a very prominent role in our school curriculum. We aim to ensure
that all children are confident and have the necessary skills to understand
and use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to their fullest potential.
In order to achieve this we have a commitment to ensure that the children have
access to the most up to date equipment we can provide.
Each class has allocated times in our computer suite each week and
use the computers to develop ICT skills along with supporting Literacy,
Numeracy, Science and the foundation subjects. We also have a laptop
trolley which houses 10 laptops.
Our computer suite has 10 fully networked computers that are
accessible to the Internet through a Broadband connection.
|
|
We also have 3 interactive whiteboards.
One in our computer suite that is used by all the children, one
in our Year 1 unit and one in our Year 6/7 class. These touch-sensitive
boards allow children to interact with the board directly with
a special pen, rather than through a computer keyboard. The board
is linked to a presenter and its own computer and includes a multitude
of software relating to all areas of the curriculum.
|
|
This is the first interactive board in the schools
of the Turks and Caicos Islands. We are proud to be bringing the
best resources possible to our children and are currently fundraising
towards having one in every classroom in the future. |

|
|
| Each classroom also has its own computer and we also have data
projectors in each room from K-7 and one in the library. These are
used on a daily basis to enhance the children's learning in ICT
and other curriculum lessons. |
|
A wide range of additional technology tools and programs are also available
as an integral support to all curriculum subject areas, including digital
cameras, scanners, microphones and programmable robot floor turtles.
| Our two Roamer robots engage children’s natural curiosity
and desire for discovery. |
|
Roamer has simple graphic buttons that can be pushed
in a series of commands that allow it to be controlled. Roamer
can go forward, backwards, turn at specific angles, sing and draw. |
 |
Children learn to use digital cameras and to
manipulate their photographs on the computer. Our older students
receive additional specialist teaching in this area and contribute
to our blog and yearbook. |
